Security Tips

The following security tips are offered by Core Security to aid in protecting your family and business. This list is not all inclusive of all security measures that may need to be taken. Contact a Core Security Representative for a "Free Security Analysis."

1. Outside Lighting

Ensure you have adequate outside lighting. Motion lights prove to be good for detering crime. Low voltage decorative lighting that highlights the outside of your home or business also helps deter burglars.

2. Secure Doors and Windows

Keep all windows and doors closed and locked. Doors and windows provide easy undetected access into your home or business.

3. Extra Protection

Some doors and windows may need additional securing with a metal rod or strong stick to prevent access. (Such as with sliding doors or old wooden windows.)

4. Trim Landscape

Keep bushes and trees trimmed and away from entrances and walkways. Criminals can use bushes and hedges to avoid being detected prior to committing criminal activity.

5. Be unpredictable

Try to alternate times that you leave and return to your home or business, so as not to create a pattern that is easy to identify.

6. Be Discrete

Don't advertise that you are going away from your home. Cancel newspaper delivery and have someone collect your mail so they don't pile up.

7. Appear Resident

Leave a car parked in the drive or ask a neighbor to park in front of your residence or in the driveway. It is also a good idea to have your yard mowed while you are away.

8. Tele-Communication Tip

Keep the same message on your answering machine or voice mail. DO NOT leave a message informing callers that you are away. Many answering devices have a feature that enables the owner to call in and obtain messages. Be suspicious of numerous "hang-up calls."

9. Indoor Lighting

Leave some lights and a radio or TV on. If possible, have them set to a timer. This will help make it appear that someone has been home.

10. Neighborhood Watch

Ask a trusted neighbor to keep watch over your residence and report suspicious activity to the police. Return the favor when they are away.

11. Security System

Install a security system to deter criminals from breaking and entering into your business or burglarizing your home. Contact a Core Security Specialist for a system to fit your security needs and budget.
